Prof. Dr. Arthur Schlossmann, staff members of his clinic. Under his leadership, paediatrics developed into the first scientific and clinical focus. His fight against infant mortality earned him the title "saviour of children". He died in 1932.

Surface hypothermia represents the beginning of open heart surgery in Germany. It was introduced by the former director of the Department of Anaesthesiology, Prof. Dr. Martin Zindler.
